Yesterday, we were challenged by the Word of God to be a church that is united. To be a church that stands as one, wins as one, accomplishes His purpose as one, serves together, and suffers together. We must understand that in order to be a church that can wear the title “United We Stand” we must do the following;
1) Remove self - are we standing in the way of the being united?
2) Respond in service - are we willing to stand and to strive with the church?
3) Receive suffering - are we willing to pay the cost of suffering for the sake of unity?
Worship can sometimes seem dead in churches. Church History records the lives of people who were full of worship. Sadly, worship has been replaced by hearts that instead of desiring to bring glory and praise to the Person of Jesus Christ, desire a church that is seeker sensitive, warm and fuzzy, with watered down preaching. Instead of living to worship Jesus Christ they want a life and a church that promotes self, does not preach sin, and paints the wrong picture of what it means to be a follower of Christ. They, could not say as David writes;
“O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth, who have set Your glory above the Heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you visit him? For You have made him , a little lower than the angels, and you have crowned Him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have out all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen-Even the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord how excellent is Your name in all the earth!”
No wonder the Psalmist would later write, “I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make it boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.”
Praising the Lord is one of the most important things a child of God can do. Sadly, Christians have given up the heart of worship for the pleasures that the world has to offer. They are content to be eating scraps rather than feasting at the banquet table.
The word worship is almost like the word love in our society as it has been tossed around and has been stripped of all of its meaning. People have to come to believe that worship means coming to church on a Sunday morning and giving God one hour of their time. They have lost the meaning of worship. A lot of believers know about God but they do not know how to worship Him.
We must come to the place in our lives where we realize;
1) The purpose of my existence is worship!
After writing that let me say this:
2) The emptiness that we often feel in our lives can be related to a lack of worship.
May the prayer of our lives simply be this…
“I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You
It’s all about You, Jesus
I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You
It’s all about You, Jesus”
Is there something in your life that is hindering you from having a heart of worship??
We have been given the privilege and opportunity to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in a free country. As The Psalmist said, “Let us worship His name together”. I invite you to come and worship the Lamb of God. Every Sunday morning we meet at 10:00 to have a time of prayer, and at 11:00 is our Sunday morning service. Come worship our Savior with us!
