“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,” Hebrews 6:19
Do you have an anchor? There are two primary classes of anchors—temporary and permanent. A permanent anchor is often called a mooring, and is rarely moved. Vessels carry one or more temporary anchors which may be of different designs and weights. A sea anchor is a related device used when the water depth makes using a mooring or temporary anchor impractical. The vessel is attached to the anchor by the rode which is made with chain, cable or line or a combination of these. The anchor was a popular symbol of the early church. Persecuted, violated, driven underground, they communicated their hope by drawing “anchors” on the catacombs. There are over sixty-anchors that have been discovered on the walls of the catacombs. They were drawn by people to whom Jesus Christ was the anchor of their soul. Christmas 2007 saw Christians living in India’s state of Orissa become victims of violence. Between December 24 and January 15th, some 730 Christians homes, and more than 100 churches were destroyed by religious extremists. The Lord has answered prayer and the region has now been stabilized, but as these Christina communities begin to rebuild, as many as 20,000 believers remain in refugee camps. We ask that you consider “Celebrating Christ” by helping believers in Orissa to rebuild their communities. The house will remind them, that although on the other side of the world we stand behind them!
